Biographies:
William E. Szymczak
Bill is a founding Managing Partner of Preservation Partners Development. Prior to starting PPD, Bill was Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriter for TRI Capital Corporation. He was responsible for directing all underwriting and mortgage credit activities for TRI’s federal and agency loan programs. He was previously affiliated with First Interstate Mortgage Company as Vice President and Chief Underwriter. Prior to that, he worked with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for 15 years in varying capacities, including Regional Director of Housing Development and Housing Management in San Francisco and Cincinnati.
Bill received his Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees from Loyola University of Chicago, where he was a teaching fellow. Actively involved in affordable housing development and preservation for over 35 years, He is a past member of the Mortgage Bankers Association and the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials (Pacific Southwest Region), and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Institute for Responsible Housing Preservation.
Since 1999, Preservation Partners has acquired, rehabilitated and preserved over 30 Section 8 projects with over 3,000 units and approximately 10,000 very low income residents.
Nidia Vasquez, CEO
Nidia has over 25 years of experience in the property management industry. She joined Preservation Partners Development as Director of Asset Management in 2003. Nidia has extensive knowledge of government programs and regulations, including HUD-subsidized programs, tax credits, and bond programs. Nidia hold a Bachelor’s degre in Business Administration from California State University Dominguez Hills, has been a licensed California real estate professional since 1983, and is also a Certified Assisted Housing Manager and a HCCP candidate.
Jon LaLanne, Chief Financial Officer
Jon is dedicated to the development and preservation of affordable housing. He works closely with investors and lenders and takes a lead role in structuring affiliated real estate partnerships. Previously Jon worked for Novogradac & Company LLP in its San Francisco and Ohio offices where he specialized in real estate development consulting with an emphasis in real estate partnership structure and taxation. Jon received a B.S. in Accounting from Brigham Young University.
Julia Arisiaga, Director of Property Management and Compliance
Julia has over nine years of experience in the property management industry and joined Preservation Partners Development as the Director of Compliance in 2005. Julia’s career started as a board member for Sacramento Mutual Housing where she was a primary spokesperson for the Mutual Housing Concept. Julia has extensive knowledge of affordable housing programs such as HUD, LIHTC and has worked in various capacities with a number of these programs. Julia is a Certified Occupancy Specialist and National Executive Compliance Professional.
Christian Szymczak, Developer
Christian Szymczak first joined Preservation Partners Management Group (PPMG) after an exciting professional career in car racing. After a stint as Accounting Manager in PPMG, Chris moved on to become a vital member of Preservation Partners Development, LLC. As a member of the development team, Christian assists in the acquistion and financign of new Tax Credit and Section 8 apartment projects and in securing new financing for existing Preservation Partners projects to ensure their continued viability. His experience includes HUD financing, LIHTC, CalFHA, BOND, etc.
James F. Barwick
James F. Barwick is a Commercial Real Estate Practitioner with over 15 years experience in the San Diego marketplace. He has expertise in virtually all facets of real estate operations including asset management, development, project management, commercial brokerage (leasing and sales), financial analysis, environmental remediation, master planning, the entitlement of properties, public outreach and property acquisitions.
